Manasota Mensa Executive Committee Meeting MINUTES Sunday, March 11, 2007
Barnes & Noble, 4010 South Tamiami Trail
Call to Order 1:40 p.m. by Marianne Gill ,Local Secretary,
Present, Marianne Gill, Edgar Coudal, Stewart Ogilby, Nancy Heinrich, Dwight Gill, Norb Zarumba.
Minutes of January 7,2007 meeting approved and seconded.
Treasurer Report- was submitted by Nancy Heinrich. Approved by Marianne Gill, Seconded by Linda Mason. This report was published in The 4M, April 2007, on page 11.
Old Business - National Mensa does not have to approve Regional Gathering. Therefore we will proceed with plans for RG, tentatively, to be at same time as Renaissance Fair in Sarasota.
Testing- Nancy Heinrich.
The testing fee will be increased to $40.00. The reimbursement to local will be increased to $15.00.
While Nancy Heinrich is away on her bicycle trip, the testing will be handled by Donna Gray. Testing will be cancelled during April, May and June in Sarasota.. Testing in Bradenton will not be conducted in May.
Nancy announced that testing will not be announced in The 4M in the future. Her experience, over 15 years, has been that applicants have not been aware of The 4M announcements. That they only are responding to newspaper notices and the Manasota website. Ergo, we are wasting space by listing in The 4M. Because testing is a national function, a local motion is not necessary on this matter.
Calendar Announcements are only necessary for attendance items.
Statistics items, such as birthday and member changes, will be skipped for the two months while Nancy is away. They will be resumed on her return.
Publicity- Ed Coudal
Publicity is considered to be stable and functioning well. The testing information is initiated by Nancy Heinrich and distributed by Edgar Coudal. The various newspapers are notified. The 4M is sent out monthly; the printer is very good .Distribution is well handled.
A question was asked about the cost of printing The 4M. The cost appears to be very reasonable at the current source (name was not mentioned) . The same printer does several other Mensa magazines. Price is less than could be done on PC. Color will be included at some time in the future. Quality of printing is considered to be very good.
A check for the amount of $154.63 was presented by Nancy for Labels .this check was to Manasota Mensa. The labels, as I understand, will last for two years.
Scholarship- Report by Marianne Gill, for Myra Jones
Myra will continue as in the past. Edgar questioned if The 4M will be notified about events.
Culture Quest-Report by Marianne Gill for Linda Mason
Culture Quest will occur on April 29th. The check has been sent to National. We will sponsor two teams.
Motion by Marianne, seconded by Nancy.
Webmaster- Dwight Gill
All is well. Response level is high . Respondents are nationwide.
SIGHT- No coordinator
A person is needed for SIGHT coordinator. We're looking for volunteers, now. This is a low-demand position.
SIGHT = Acronym for, Service Information Guest, Hospitality for Travelers.
Some discussion about need for this category in Sarasota since it is destination not a transient place.
Gifted - Terri Tumlin not present.
Manatee County Area- Norb Zarumba
Things have been slow. Will require more vigorous action.
De Soto County Area- Tobi Evans - Coordinator not present.
Charlotte County Area- No coordinator
Ombundsman- Don Brunner not present
New Business-
Regional Gathering was discussed. Marianne Gill volunteered to be chair this event because she will no longer be Local Secretary when the event occurs (during the Sarasota Renaissance Fair next spring).
A motion was made that Marianne Gill be chair for the RG by Nancy and seconded by Stewart Ogilby. Unanimous vote .
Mariannel has chaired two RGs in the past. Nancy chaired one RG.
There was much brain storming on this topic. including, place time, title, seminars, finance. Theme was decided to be "Back to the Future".
Seminars considered were, Costumes, E-bay, Bicycle trips, reverse mortgages . . .
An article will be published in the May edition of 4M.
Finance will not be a problem, at least until early 2008.
Next meeting will be on Sunday, June 24th, 1:30 at Barnes & Noble ,
Meeting closed at 2:24 p.m.
Respectfully submitted: April 20, 2007
